Cyril Marès's father grew Cabernet Sauvignon first in Haut-Médoc with his father; then decided to try it out in the Costières de Nîmes over thirty years ago. It makes a powerful, complex blend with the native Syrah, resulting in a wine ineligible (because of the atypical Cabernet component) for AOC status, but which demonstrates just how rewarding some of the experimental vins de pays from grower estates can be. Sweet black berries on the nose, and great, generous ripeness. There are suggestions of cedar and cigar box on the mid palate and complex fruit with a long plum & chocolate finish. Exceptional value in a wine, very different from the AOC, that can be enjoyed now or for at least ten years to come.
