Perennial favourite in Ireland, Château Lynch-Bages - a robust and opulent style of Pauillac - has enjoyed an uninterrupted run of fine wines since the 1980s.
2005 is justly regarded as a stunning vintage for red Bordeaux: different, but on a par with, the top two vintages of the latter part of the last century, 1982 and 1990, giving exceptionally ripe wines that still offer refreshment and good tannic structure.
The Lynch-Bages 2005 is just about entering its drinking window now (2012), and may be cellared up to 2030 or so.

Wines & Spirits, 96 points: ‘Cazes's team can dress Lynch-Bages in the black-tie formality of a first growth, but the wine is still lovely ... friendly rather than ponderous. There's something ethereal about its tannins, like a chocolate truffle melting in the mouth. Pure black cherry flavour saturates the wine with freshness; the complexity is intriguing and silken.’

Wine Enthusiast, 96 points: ‘Classic Lynch-Bages with just a bit of extra power and richness. While the tannins are structured, it is the velvety fruit that rolls around the mouth that is the most dominant character. It is coming together into a wine that will be big and dense, but never over the top.’
----------
The Wine Advocate, 91 points: ‘This outstanding effort is slightly lighter, more streamlined, and delicate than followers of Lynch Bages have come to expect ... A deep hue is accompanied by a classic Medoc nose of tapenade, roasted herbs, liquorice, cedar, blackcurrants, and damp earth. Medium-bodied with moderate tannins, sweet fruit, and surprising softness as well as forwardness, it can be drunk now and over the next twenty-odd years."
